While the center of activities from Aug. 29-Sept 2 will be the only Harley-Davidson Museum in the world, many racing events are spread throughout the metro area: • Indoor flat-track racing takes place Aug. 31 at the UWM Panther Arena in downtown Milwaukee. • Side-by-side racing also is scheduled Aug. 31 at the Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove south of Milwaukee. • Beach racing returns to Milwaukee's lakefront for the first time in more than a century. Sand will be flying on the city's Lake Michigan beaches Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. • Hill-climb racing, popularized by the annual Sturgis Rally in South Dakota, is on tap Sept 1 at the Little Switzerland ski hill in Slinger, northwest of Milwaukee in Washington County. • Again this year, the big parade of Milwaukee Iron from N. 45th St. east on Wisconsin Avenue through downtown to Veterans Park on the lakefront, will be a highlight for riders and spectators on Sept. 2. On the grounds of the Harley-Davidson Museum, activities will be continuous and include motorcycle field games and the museum's annual custom bike show. A Moto-Carnival will fill Veterans Park north of the Milwaukee Art Museum from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2. The carnival will include high-wire motorcycle thrill shows, the Wall of Death, vendors and entertainment. Street parties are scheduled for the Rotary Performance Pavilion in Wauwatosa Aug. 29-Sept. 1; Motorcycle Alley, S. 5th St. south of W. Virginia St., Aug. 31 and Sept. 1; Brady Street between N. Marshall and N. Farwell Sts., Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, and the Historic Third Ward, N. Broadway between E. St. Paul Ave. and Catalano Square Park, Sept. 1. Most of the anniversary events are free and open to the public, but some require tickets. For information on all of the activities from Aug. 29-Sept. 2, visit harley-davidson.com
