Custom Rigs 44 | Overdrive | August 2018 D enver Truck Painting of Denver, Pennsylvania, took a wrecked 2013 Peterbilt 389 and rebuilt it to look like a classic 359. The truck was on display in June at Shell Rotella SuperRigs at White's Travel Center in Raphine, Virginia. It earned second place in the Show Truck category. Mark Hollen, owner of Denver Truck Painting, says as the project got going, he didn't know where to stop, so he and his crew went all-in. The truck was rebuilt from top to bottom with new bolts, privets, panels, a dash, a custom-cut hood and more. Putting the old school in the new school Denver Truck Painting's 2013 Peterbilt 389 features many Pete 359-style features, including the hood, bumper and dash. BY MATT COLE Mark Hollen added a custom wood-panel 359 dash to give the truck's interior a classic look and feel. The rig has 302,000 miles and sits on a factory 323-inch wheelbase. The sleeper is a 2001 70-inch custom Peterbilt Ultra with new panels. The truck has a 6NZ Cat with an 18-speed. Hollen says he's always loved the 359 style, so he added a custom 359-style bumper, 359 cutouts and a strip on the hood, new panels, 359 air cleaners and bonnets and more. The rig also sports DynaFlex stacks and York three-quarter rear fenders. The paint job, which is modeled after a Peterbilt on a clock in Hollen's office, took 26 gallons to cover everything from the frame and up. Hollen says the truck was sold before the Mid-America Trucking Show in March in Louisville, Kentucky, and the new owner was set to take possession of it last month.
