What does access to a Level I Trauma Center mean to you? It means we have We have a strong network of ambulances and a medical helicopter. everything in place to cover the entire spectrum of care for injured patients. We house three critical care units and neuro-trauma, cardiovascular and medical intensive care units We have a trauma surgeon on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and an operating room dedicated to trauma surgery. We offer injury prevention programs. We have physicians in more than 20 specialties standing by at all hours. Paramedic Helps stabilize trauma patients and transports them by ambulance to the emergency room quickly. Flight Nurse Begins early life-saving treatment while in flight. Emergency Room Nurse Works closely with the physicians and is a member of the receiving team – a group of staff members who come together when a patient is on the way to the ER. Pediatric Nurse Helps the trauma team meet the unique needs of children, and is a calming voice to a scared child. 8 We participate in research and clinical studies. After you are discharged, all followup appointments are held at the trauma clinic with your trauma surgeon. Labor and Delivery Nurse Reminds the trauma staff about special needs for mom and baby. CT Technologist Performs CT scans to identify injuries, internal bleeding, fractures and more. Neurotrauma Intensive Care Unit Nurse Watches over trauma patients extra carefully, particularly if they have a head or spine injury. Surgical Technician Makes sure the operating room is ready for a patient and assists the trauma surgeon during surgery. Lab Technician Draws blood samples and submits them to the lab so the physician can get test results quickly. Respiratory Therapist He or she is positioned at the head of the patient's bed and runs the ventilator if needed. Trauma Surgeon Responsible for emergency surgery on injured patients. Chaplain While the rest of the trauma team takes care of a patient, the chaplain is there for a patient's family, providing updated information.
