May 24, 1958 – December 23, 2012 Sherl Meek lived, traveled and played in the fence industry Sherl Jean Meek (Shipley) of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Sherl was a fighter to the end, and battled hard against a second bout of cancer that took her from this earth much too early. She was born on May 24, 1958 to Willard Jerry Shipley and Shirley Jean Sanders at St. John's Hospital, a "preemie" weighing just 2 pounds, 11 Sherl Meek ounces. Sherl married Mark Meek on October 4, 1995 and became an instant step-mom to his three sons, Brian, Jack and Travis. She worked for many years as a purchasing agent at Hilti and retired in late 2005. Retirement brought a fulltime devotion to golf and Sherl worked hard perfecting her game at Cedar Ridge Country Club. Sherl was also serving as the women's golf association president at the time of her death. Sherl traveled extensively with Mark, often combining his work trips on behalf of Ameristar Fence Products with pleasure. She attended a wide variety of industry trade shows, meetings and events with Mark, and over the years hosted literally hundreds of fence contractors when they would visit the Ameristar facility in Tulsa. Sherl also helped raise her niece, Shelby, who has become a strong young woman because of Sherl and Mark's love and support. Sherl also was a devoted "Nana" to her sweet granddaughter, Veronica, and they had so much fun together. Sherl had a large and lively group of friends and a loving family. Since her passing, the comments and pictures have been flowing on Sherl's Facebook page, wholeheartedly confirming what a kind and caring soul she was, full of life and laughter, with a beautiful smile, said Mark. "Sherl will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. She will forever be cherished by her family for her generous spirit, her loving nature and the never ending support and encouragement she has selflessly given her family all these years," he said. Sherl is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Jean Sanders. She is survived by her husband, Mark; her sons, Brian Meek (Cassi Graham); Jack Meek (Andie); Travis Meek (Maria) and their daughter, Veronica; her nieces, Shelby Mulder and Brittney Mulder; and her father, Willard Jerry Shipley, all of Tulsa. Sherl leaves behind her brothers, Dan Garrison and family of Grayson, Georgia; Dale Garrison and family of Booneville, Indiana; Mike Garrison and family of Snellville, Georgia; Steve Garrison and family of Florida; and her sister, Julia Brusveen of Tulsa. Other extended family members include Jack Meek (father-in-law), Cindy and Gerry Henley (sister-in-law and brother-in-law), Jessica, Jed and Chase Chernabaeff (niece and nephew/great-nephew), and Melissa Henley (niece), all of Fresno, California. Other loving family members are Patricia Meek and Michael Bell of Tulsa, as well as the Wills, Childers and Bell families. The solution for mechanical action. Sherl was a hoot Ted Eysenbach, general manager of Stephens Pipe & Steel, was a long-time friend and associate of Sherl's, and wrote this very personal – and spot on accurate – remembrance of her. Some of you know Mark Meek, who is the president of Ameristar Fence Products in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fewer of you knew his wife, Sherl, but I wish you had. A single word instantly comes to mind when I remember Sherl – hoot. That woman was a hoot! She was full of life, quick to laugh, and always conspiring to find a way for everyone around her to have fun. She was an excellent golfer, and was a valued partner in any golf game that would occur. She and Mark often played early in the day, finishing rounds in record time. During her first battle with cancer several years ago, she acquired several different wigs, and would assume the persona that best fit the headpiece she was wearing that day. Like I said, she was a hoot! Her treatment regimen was tough, but she never let it subdue her; she was a fighter. In fact, well, never mind, that's another story. As tough and gruff as Mark might appear, when it came to Sherl, he was defenseless. Theirs is a love from the deepest well. Please say a prayer in her memory. And say one for Mark and her extended family. One little girl is really missing her Granny right now. Shown with 7512 pre-threaded bracket. Sold separately.
