Moving on Up: Laura Mael k Sometimes you can just [need]... that one piece that puts it all together. Hair and makeup by: The story: After 30 years in finance, Lauras life changed as she counted herself among the casualties of a struggling banking industry. But she seized her unemployment as a catalyst to finding a job that utilized her skills in a more meaningful way. Three hundred resumes and many interviews later, Laura got her wish when she landed a job as career services director at Madison Media Institute. Unfortunately her wardrobe hasnt kept pace. I work with kids who are four to five years older than my oldest, and I am dressed like their mom, she says. 56 BRAVA Magazine February 2013 Hair and makeup: Stylist Mariah Scheffler of The Ultimate Spa Salon added life and body to Lauras hair with a richer base color, highlights and lowlights. With this low-maintenance haircut and bangs, Laura can look polished and professional in a jiffy. Fresh neutral colors that complement Lauras light eyes and sheer pink lip gloss create a look that works for both day and night. The look: Laura rocks a look thats trendy enough to meet with a student but conservative enough for a business meeting across town. Wearing black from head to toe helps this petite dynamo appear inches taller. By adding a colorful cropped jacket and skinny belt to this skirt and top combo, Lauras edgy look becomes proportionately curvy. Jacket by Luii, $120, tank by Joseph Ribkoff, $75, ribbed skirt by Joseph Ribkoff, $110, belt, $25, necklace and charm by Bud & Rose, $88; Jan Byce Designs. Maire heel by Guess, $70; DSW.
