Kobelco Construction Machinery (owned by Kobe Steel in Japan) and CNH have ended their 10-year global alliance. CNH will market on its own in Asian markets. Equity agreements for both companies have also ended. CNH will continue to be entitled to manufacture and sell hydraulic excavators currently licensed from Kobelco Construction Machinery. In addition, until the end of December 2017, CNH will have the right to procure hydraulic excavators from Kobelco Construction Machinery on an OEM basis. Servicing parts will continue for 10 years. Kobelco Construction Machinery will have the right to receive running royalties for the licensed hydraulic excavators manufactured by CNH for a five-year period until the end of December 2017. New Study Details Job, Revenue Growth from Shale Energy Production in All 50 States An IHS Report October 2012 America's New Energy Future: The Unconventional Oil and Gas Revolution and the US Economy Volume 1: National Economic Contributions 7328_1012PB The second phase of a comprehensive new study co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber's Institute for 21st Century Energy was recently released, highlighting the benefits that shale energy will have on America's economy over the coming years. IHS, a leading global energy research firm, is conducting the three-part study to examine the economic impact of shale energy exploration and production across the country. Part 1 of the report focused on national benefits. According to the study, shale energy has created the most jobs in Texas (576,000), Pennsylvania (102,600), California (96,500), Louisiana (78,900) and Colorado (77,600). By 2020, Texas (929,400), Pennsylvania (220,600) and California (153,600) will still lead the way, but they'll be followed by Oklahoma (149,600) and Ohio (143,600). 6945_0912PB States May Take EPA to Court Over Methane in Fracking Seven states recently announced their intent to sue the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over methane leaks occurring during the hydraulic fracturing process, also known as fracking, unless EPA issues specific guidelines addressing the matter. The Attorneys General for Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont allege that EPA is violating the Clean Air Act since its new performance standards for fracking do not directly regulate methane emissions released at oil and natural gas wells. Should the EPA fail to respond to or deny the request by Feb. 11, 2013, the states have indicated they are prepared to take the issue to court to secure federal emissions regulations. 16 | www.cedmag.com | Construction Equipment Distribution | February 2013 16_industry beat_KP.indd 16 1/30/13 2:57 PM
