Meet Your New P&CMA Chairman: R. Shayne Lord A company is only as good as its people. Shayne Lord, President of R.S. Lord, LLC. believes his company has great people. Shayne says he truly values the people who work for R.S. Lord. "Our people make a big difference. We have hard-working, loyal people. Our store managers and supervisors help overcome a lot of challenges we face in today's business." Shayne has been in the petroleum retailing industry for nearly 20 years. However, unlike so many owners in the industry today, Shayne did not grow up in the business. He began working as VP and General Manager of Morgan Distributing Co. nearly twenty years ago. Shayne says, "Ricky and 'Mr. Henry' Morgan humbled me very much with a great opportunity. They had a lot of faith in me. They provided for me and my family dearly for about 14 years. Not only did they provide income, but trust and friendship." Although he was still working with Morgan Distributing, Shayne and a partner purchased a BBQ business and established a franchise chain of six Hooks BBQ locations. 10 OIL PROPHETS WINTER 2013 When the Morgan family sold their stores, Shayne worked in the BBQ business and began purchasing convenience stores near Troy, Andalusia, Elba & Sanford. He currently owns and operates 6 gasoline stations and convenience stores. Ironically, some of the stores are those that he designed and built during his time at Morgan Distributing. Those stores had a lot of meaning to him, and when they became available to buy he was happy to have the opportunity to purchase them. The Morgan family allowed him to use "Mr. Henry's" logo and brand. Today, the stores are still named "Mr. Henry's." Shayne recognized the value of being an active member in P&CMA in his early days at Morgan Distributing and served on the P&CMA Board of Directors. The Morgans introduced him to the association and taught him the value of involvement and attendance at the General Membership Meeting, tradeshows, seminars, lobbying efforts, and networking. "I owe to them a ton of wonderful relationships with people I've met over the years – places I've been and things I've done. It really meant something
