Incubating Innovation Study after study points to the notion that business incubators reduce the risk of small-business failures. Historically, member incubators of the National Business Incubation Association have reported that 87 percent of all firms that have graduated from their incubators are still in business and about 84 percent of those graduates remained in the incubators community. Compare that with a study that shows 66 percent of new non-incubated firms survive at least two years, and 44 percent survive at least four years. While it is important to note that these figures are not directly comparable because of differences in survey methodology and time frame, looking at them side by side strongly suggests what we hold true in the Florida High Tech Corridor: business incubation works. What is it about incubators that breed successful technology companies? In the pages that follow are stories of passionate entrepreneurs who brought their innovative ideas to marketand have reaped significant rewardsthanks to the advising teams and entrepreneurial community within Corridor incubators. florida.HIGH.TECH 2013 fht_incubation_2013.indd 33 33 2/12/13 1:15 PM
