SECTOR STATISTICS Research The statistics use a process which is consistent year-by-year, and are based upon published federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Employment and Wage Data (CEW) aggregated at the county-by-county level for the 23-county Florida High Tech Corridor region. CEW data contains records that are withheld when they can reveal proprietary information about individual employers, so these data typically under-report actual employment figures. To compensate for withheld records, we calibrate our findings based upon recent third-party sources such as commercial databases, industry surveys, and cluster studies to provide a more accurate estimate of industry employment and establishment counts. Salary data are not calibrated. The most recent data available are for calendar year 2011 (first quarter 2012 data have been released by the BLS, but were not seen as sufficiently different from 2011 to warrant a mid-year, i.e., July-July annualization of data). The NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System) definition of industry clusters is based upon a modification of standard, published definitions from the American Electronics Association (AEA). Overview In 2011, the Florida High Tech Corridor region supported an estimated 19,722 technology establishments and 230,236 technology jobs, with an average salary of $77,372. Financial Services is still the largest sector with more than 93,000 jobs, followed by information technology with over 43,000 jobs. The highest paying technology sectors are other: media, and aerospace, both of which pay more than $88,500 per year in average salaries. The aerospace sector is manufacturingbased and has the largest individual employers, averaging 123 employees per establishment.
