LOOSE LUGNUTS much time and money to new engine development. But maybe Ecclestone and others are worrying for nothing. MercedesBenz says its 2014 Formula 1 engine will put the motor back in motorsport. Andy Cowell, managing director of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines, told Racer magazine that the new power units are going to be loud but, I think, sweetsounding. The frequency will be higher, he said, and with the turbocharger running at 125,000 rpm, he promised they will be loud. Hear, hear! NASCAR still driving for diversity: Darrell Wallace Jr. CHANGING LANES made his Nationwide Series debut last May at Iowa Speedway and nished ninth. But to NASCAR, that was as good as a win. Wallace is the rst driver from NASCARs Drive for Diversity program to make a Nationwide start. Since its inception in 2004, around 40 drivers have participated in the program, which was created as a way for minority drivers to showcase their skills for NASCAR team owners. Seven drivers have been selected for the 2013 program. They are Bryan Ortiz, Ryan Gifford, Mackena Bell, Daniel Suarez, Annabeth Barnes, Jack Madrid and Devon Amos. Jot down those names. You might one day be seeing them on a Sprint Cup track. 24 MARCH 2013 // WWW.CHANGINGLANESDIGITAL.COM crazy woman driver 0313 cl.indd 4 2/5/13 9:21 AM
