Even before the conference officially opened, there was considerable buzz when trees across
the downtown mysteriously turned
up covered in colourful scarves,
a.k.a., tree cozies. This phenomenon is known as "knitbombing," and the group responsible
for this was called YUCK (Young
Underground Canadian Knitters).
Emerald Ash Borer is recognized
as a major threat to our urban forests and was a major focus of the
conference. The SMA organized
two major panel sessions devoted
to the issue. The first full day session, "Advances in Ash Canopy
Conservation," focused on tools
that can be used to manage the
infestation. The tools include:
