The Indianapolis 500, the Monaco Grand Prix and the race we're going to talk about here, the NASCAR All-Star Race. In theory, the All-Star Race – set for May 18 in Charlotte – ought to be one of the year's most fun events. With no points on the line, the drivers ought to be going all-out, having at it, as NASCAR so famously wanted a few seasons ago. Instead, it's a night full of possibilities unfulfilled. Once again, the field is made up of 34 crazy woman driver 0513 cl.indd 1 drivers who've won a Sprint Cup race in either 2012 or so far in 2013, along with All-Star winners and Sprint Cup champions from the past decade. And as usual, the night will begin with a hooligan race, known this year as the Sprint Showdown. The top two finishers in this 40-lap prelim will advance, along with a third driver voted in by the fans. The main event will consist of five segments, with the first four 20-lap segments setting up the final 10-lap shootout. And here's where things get a little complicated.
