Arguments of nebulous rights to freedom of expression are both nonsen- sical and dangerous. Standards are, in many instances, mission and safety critical. Headlights on cars are mandatory and standard- ized; so are brakes. To not have them or not use them is a criminal off ense. Why? ink about it for a minute. How many people would be killed in the fi rst month if headlights, brakes, and their use were not mandatory? It would not even be safe to walk on the sidewalk, and driving would be Russian roulette on wheels. We are not exercising any freedom of expression at 80 mph at night without headlights or brakes. Simply put, our freedom of expres- sion is constitutionally limited to not killing other people by doing so. Business and econo- mies will recover, but only if people don't needlessly die. Stay the hard course and stay around for the next conven- tion. ere is no alternative. ●
