GOOD JOB Industry Meyers joins leadership class Busacca heads wine program R people D ebecca Meyers, a merchandising manager with Wenatchee-based news. Stemilt Growers, Inc., has been selected to join Class 19 of the United Fresh Foundation's Produce Industry Leadership Program. Beginning in July, the 12 class members will take part in educational events and outings focusing on leadership development, business relationships, government and public affairs, and media and public communications. Meyers is based in North Carolina, but spends most of her working days on the road visiting Stemilt's customers to develop and execute marketing programs for the company's various fruits. Before joining Stemilt in 2009, she was a produce buyer at C&S Wholesale Grocers. Class members will meet industry leaders and visit Michigan, Ontario, Washington, D.C., Delaware, and Arizona, before graduating at the 2014 United Fresh convention in Chicago. Candidates for the program submit applications, including two essays detailing their interest in the program and what they consider to be the most important challenges facing the produce industry. For more information about the program, check the Web site www.unitedfreshfoundation.org. in the olumbia Marketing International (CMI), based in Wenatchee, Washington, has appointed Bob Mast as company president. He succeeds Glady Bellamy, who died suddenly two years ago. Stuart McDougal served as interim president. Mast joined CMI, one of the state's largest tree fruit shippers, in 2003 as director of marketing and became vice president of marketing six years ago. He has a bachelor's degree in management from Arizona State University and has had extensive training in marketing and category management. Mike Wade, an owner of CMI and member of the board, said Mast, who was already in a key leadership role, was the only candidate considered for the position. r. Alan Busacca has been appointed director of enology and viticulture at Walla Walla Community College. Busacca has an extensive background in both education and the wine industry. He is a professor emeritus of soil science and geology at WashingAlan Busacca ton State University, where he did research on the soils and terroirs of the Walla Walla Valley. He founded and co-owns Volcano Ridge Vineyard near The Dalles, Oregon, and also co-owns Alma Terra Wines at Bingen, Washington. After teaching at WSU, Busacca started a consulting business called Vinitas Vineyard Consulting and worked in Colorado, the Pacific Northwest, South America, and beyond. The enology and viticulture program at Walla Walla Community College offers students a two-year degree in associated arts and sciences as well as a viticulture science certificate and a fermentation science certificate. A teaching vineyard and teaching winery provide students with hands-on experience. Busacca begins his role as program director on July 29.
