"When they hooked me up to the monitor, they were four minutes apart. They said they were really glad I came in when I did," says Beth, who adds that the nurses, both in the check-in area and in Labor and Delivery, were phenomenal. Dr. Randy Hill, OB/GYN, was on call that night and delivered Dr. Randy Hill Beth's baby boy at 3:11 a.m. on Jan. 1. Jonathan weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces. Family Beginnings "We were very excited to have the first baby of the new year at Cox," says Beth. "He's our New Year's baby." Beth's OB/GYN is Dr. Mary Duff, who says that Beth was under great care with Dr. Hill, one of her physician partners. Expecting again? "Dr. Duff was amazing. She was very supportive of all the decisions we had talked about," says Beth. "She was always very Dr. Mary Duff professional and knowledgeable." Prepare your child for a new sibling. "We take turns being on call so the patient always has a physician who is rested and immediately available," says Dr. Duff. During the months leading up to Beth's labor and delivery, she saw Dr. Duff frequently throughout her pregnancy. Dr. Duff sees her patients once a month until they are 28 weeks along, and then she sees them every two weeks. At 36 weeks along, she sees patients once a week. At the last few appointments Dr. Duff discusses with her patients what to expect during labor and delivery. She emphasizes that education is very important and recommends Family Beginnings classes at The Women's Center. "They offer everything from an extensive eight hour class for parents who have never had a baby before to classes for dads, siblings and grandparents," says Dr. Duff. After delivery, new moms have a mother-baby team to help them with breastfeeding and caring for their newborn. The team provides assistance to the whole family.
