As many other carriers were cutting driver pay, reducing benefi ts and cutting back in other areas, we did not reduce existing driver pay. Crete Carrier maintained the benefi ts important to our drivers and their families, continued to make profi t-sharing contributions, and invested in new tractors, trailers and facilities. We made no across the board driver lay-off s and continued to pay our drivers based on practical route miles. However, over the past two years, we did lower the starting driver pay rate. Eff ective July 1, 2010, we are restoring $.03 of the starting driver pay reduction for new national drivers and $.01 of the pay reduction for new regional drivers. Additionally, for our existing drivers, we are increasing the maximum pay cap for national drivers to $.47 for Crete drivers and $.48 for Shaff er drivers. All three divisions have also starting leasing on owner-operators again as well as hiring team drivers. With the increase in demand for truckload capacity from our customers, we need drivers immediately for all three divisions: Crete Carrier in the dry van segment; Shaff er Trucking in temperature controlled; and Hunt Transportation in fl atbed and specialized.
