TRUCKING OPPORTUNITIES Fleet Insider AVERITT OFFERING FREE GAS, FREE FORD F-150 FOR FUEL CONSERVATION Averitt Express will be giving away 20 $500 gas cards and one fully-loaded 2010 Ford F150 to some Averitt drivers as part of its Fuel Duel program. The drivers have been grouped into teams for scorekeeping. The teams must collectively improve their fuel mileage over a six-month period, using the same six-month period from last year as TRUCKERSNEWSDRIVERJOBS.COM their benchmark, by reducing truck idling, using smooth-shifting tech- niques, traveling at slower speeds and maintaining proper tire pres- sure. All drivers who improve their fuel mileage will be entered into the drawing for the gas cards and the truck. CRETE RECEIVES KELLOGG’S AWARDS Crete Carrier Corp. received two awards from the Kellogg’s cereal and convenience foods producer, the Lincoln, Neb.-based fleet announced. Crete Carrier won Kel- logg’s 2009 Komplete Carrier of the Year, and sister division Shaffer Trucking was named 2009 Tempera- ture Controlled Carrier of the Year. ATA GIVES SCHNEIDER SECURITY AWARD The American Trucking Associations presented Green Bay, Wis.-based Schneider National with its Supply Chain Security & Loss Prevention Council’s 2010 Excellence in Security Award. ATA gives the award annu- ally to the carrier best demonstrating abilities to evaluate risks, implement plans, apply tools, train personnel and manage systems and processes to successfully minimize theft. In 2009, Schneider saw a 76 percent drop in cargo thefts, the company says. CRETE RAISES STARTING DRIVER PAY Pay increased 3 cents effective July 1 for starting long-haul drivers at Crete Carrier, Shaffer Trucking and Hunt Transportation, Crete announced. Pay for new regional drivers will be raised 1 cent, the Lincoln, Neb.-based Crete Carrier Corp. said. For drivers already with the fleets, the maximum pay cap for long-haul drivers will be 47 cents for Crete drivers and 48 cents for Shaffer drivers. Rheem bases its Carrier award on on-time performance, customer satisfaction, billing accuracy and freight claims.
