Pieces of the Past Visitors and residents alike are often curious about Whitewater's roots – and they do run deep. The awesome beauty of the Kettle Moraine area's rolling hills, creeks and lakes moved the Native Americans to call it "Minneiska" – the city beautiful. Later, the Potawatomi Indians' term – "Waubegannawpocat," meaning white water, after the whitish sands in the creek bottoms – furnished the city with its name.
