Without you it would not have been such a success so… THANK YOU! When I was asked to take on the role of Executive Director back in July, I knew there would be obstacles ahead but you all have been welcoming and patient with me as I transitioned from the world of accounting to my new role. As the accountant for IDA for the past decade and a half, I have learned so much about this industry and the membership has become a lot like family to me. I look forward to speaking with you and seeing you each year at the convention. My goal as the Executive Director is to bring back some of what was lost and help build the association to greater heights than ever before. Because I have been involved with IDA for so long, I have had the opportunity to develop new ideas, strategies and relationships that I feel will bring added value back to the association. As was mentioned in the previous Universal, we are working on updating the website Progress is Impossible Without Change to give it more functionality, adding content to social media, and updating our CRM! We are excited about all of the new content but most importantly want to hear your stories. In my short time as Executive Director, our social media following has doubled and is continuing to grow. Get your story out there by sharing it with us so that we can promote YOU. A er all, IDA is here because of you! While networking with other executives, I was intro- duced to a Japanese initiative called the Hoshin Kanri. is initiative is a lean approach used for strategic company-wide improvements. Developed in the 60's and 70's, it has helped companies worldwide develop and implement key strategic initiatives. Hoshin Planning is meant to eliminate ineffi cien- cies that can result from lack of communication and direc- tion among diff erent depart- ments within a company. Many organizations in recent years – especially manufacturers – have adopted this method of planning and its proven success is making it a popular choice across all industries. ere are four critical steps to begin Hoshin Planning: 1. Identify your key goals. For IDA, this means: • Building membership - in turn increasing your vendors and customers • Increasing membership value 2. Play catch. is term is used to describe the concept of throwing ideas back and forth. is was illustrated during our round table discussion at the general session at Convention last month. 3. Get your gemba on! Gemba refers to hitting the ground running with an action plan and tracking your success. 4. Make adjustments as needed. We will be going back and forth between items three and four until we get it right. As a member, know that your voice needs to be heard so that we can continue to improve and with the current Board we are making things happen! Prioritizing our members is key! I encourage you to spread the word about IDA member- ship, share your stories with us so that we can share them on social media and in our publica- tions. Most importantly, become involved in your association because at its very core, IDA is about YOU!
