Excavator designed for
heavy-duty applications
Kobelco Construction Machinery USA introduces its SK350LC crawler
excavator to North America. The 81,800-pound model was engineered for
heavy-duty applications. Its 270-horsepower, Tier 4 HINO engine is said
to be fuel efficient and deliver significant operational cost savings for a
machine in the unit's size class. An improved hydraulic system reduces
energy loss, providing better all-around job performance. With three
engine modes — heavy, standard, and economic — operators can switch
between power and fuel consumption priorities through a one-button operation
in the cab. The unit has a digging force of 50,582 pounds; a dig depth of 24 feet,
10 inches; a 1.57-2.09 cubic yard bucket; and a swing speed of 10.0 rpm. The unit
also uses Kobelco's proprietary intelligent control system and is equipped with
Komex, its machine operation management system.

Steel-bottom dump trailer
American Carrier Equipment offers a new ultra-high-tensile-strength steel
bottom dump trailer. The result of two years of research, the new trailer is
said to be 30-percent lighter, have 300-percent greater structural integrity,
and accommodate 12.5-percent greater load capacity than competitive offerings. Standard features include fuel-saving super single tires and lightweight
aluminum wheels. The trailer can be fitted with risers that extend the bed
capacity, allowing it to haul larger volumes of lighter-weight material.
