The Central Library's opening gala is Sept. 7; it opens to the public Sept. 21. Pay special attention to all art and design in the new library's infrastructure. You'll be impressed by the restoration of the beloved Aaron Bohrod mural, and the re-siting of OV Shaffer's "Hieroglyph" to the green rooftop. Look for new work by brilliant young artists like Niki Johnson who created "Stacked" out of book ends from the old library, and Heath Matysek-Snyder's "Kominy" which encases furniture from the old library in stacked wood. Those pieces and many other works are thoughtfully integrated throughout the building creating an inspiring atmosphere. Cross the street to the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art for the Wisconsin Triennial, one of the most exciting presentations of contemporary art being made in Wisconsin today. Attend the Sept. 20 opening to see the very best from both established and emerging talent.
