Buy whole flax seed to take advantage of the long shelf life (store airtight in a cool, dark place for up to a year). But because whole seeds can be digested before they're absorbed, it's best to grind the seeds before consuming. sprinkle ground flax on cereal, cottage cheese or yogurt.
