Top Trails Continued from p. 73 Glacial Drumlin State Trail This 52-mile crushed limestone path follows an abandoned railroad corridor through 10 tiny towns on its rural route to Waukesha. From the Capital City Trail, ride east on Cottage Grove Road, turn right on Vilas Road, then left on Clark Street to the trailhead at the County Highway N intersection. Badger State Trail Cruise 40 miles of farmland, forests, rolling hills, peaceful prairies—and a 1,200-foot tunnel in Belleville—en route to Freeport, Ill. Hop on the trail at its northernmost point on Lovell Lane in Fitchburg. Military Ridge State Trail Connecting Dodgeville and Madison via the Sugar River Valley, this 1855 military route passes Governor Dodge and Blue Mound state parks, offering 40 miles of abundant natural scenery. From the Capital City Trail, follow a marked one-mile link southwest along Verona Road to the Military Ridge trailhead at the intersection of Verona Road and Highway PD in Fitchburg. "Dracula" Returns! Madison Ballet's thrilling rock ballet "Dracula" returns by popular demand to the Overture Center October 23-26. Artistic Director W. Earle Smith blends sexy, contemporary ballet with an original rock score by composer Mike Massey in a production that breathes new life into this story of the undead. Oct. 23-26, times vary Overture Center, 201 State St., Madison Contact Madison Ballet's ticket concierge today at (608) 278-7990 or visit madisonballet.org for more information. Umami Continued from p. 78 No matter your party's size, you should order large and share with the table. Start with a Tokyo Snow Pear sakatini. Anything pickled here is a must, so try the picked vegetable appetizer as a light prelude to the ramen—with noodles made by nearby RP's Pasta and plentiful broth and garnish options. The standouts— and sometime sell-outs—are the steamed Chinese buns: vegetarian offerings featuring shiitake mushrooms or tofu, savory pork belly and our favorite, the addictive spicy-sweet Korean bulgogi. As fortune would have it, your chance to order more of those billowy buns could come sooner than you think—like tomorrow for lunch: the Umami buns food cart sets up weekdays on Library Mall and Saturdays on State Street during the farmers' market. Best for: Dinner with the family, on the town with friends, date night, dining al fresco. Monday-Thursday 5-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 5-10 p.m., Sunday 5-9 p.m. 923 Williamson St., Madison. (608) 819-6319. umamimadison.com. 86 brava magazine | september 2013
