Logbook ADVERTISEMENT Two violations coded into CSA Two new violations have been coded into carrier profiles on the Compliance, Safety, Accountability site, safer.fmcsa. dot.gov. One reflects violations of the new hours of service rule that went into effect July 1. The system now codifies violations of the 30-minute break requirement of the rule with a 7-point severity weight that contributes to the Hours of Service Compliance Behavioral Analysis and Safety Improvement Category. The second new violation is related to alcohol possession and brings a severity weight of 3 to the Controlled Substances/ Alcohol BASIC. The new codification allows roadside inspectors to distinguish between alcohol possession and use, as the use/under-the-influence violation is a 5-point weight. – Staff reports David O. Frankart Jr., trucker and winner of "Tell us your Mobil Delvac™ story" contest. David O. Frankart Jr., chooses friends and engine oil for life. How did you become a trucker? My father-in-law put the bug in my ear—he's an owner operator with more than 20 years of experience in oversized loads. So when I had the chance to take a free truck driving class a few years ago, I jumped at the opportunity. What's the hardest thing about driving a truck? PACCAR ISSUED A RECALL for 2010-12 Kenworth model T4 and W9 trucks built between Nov. 13, 2009, and Aug. 26, 2011, due to faulty alternator wiring that potentially could lead to a vehicle fire. Owners may contact Paccar at 425468-7400; the recall number is 13 KWJ. NAVISTAR LAUNCHED its International TranStar regional haul tractor with the MaxxForce 13 engine and selective catalytic reduction emissions technology. The TranStar is the fifth heavy-duty International truck model to transition to SCR technology since December. September 2013 | Overdrive | 15 © 2013 Exxon Mobil Corporation. I hate every time I have to do it. Any good stories from the road? I remember I was driving through Ohio, and a guy came on the CB looking for some engine oil. I had a few extra gallons of Mobil Delvac™ heavy-duty diesel engine oil, so I gave it to him. Afterwards, we went in and had dinner. To this day, seven years later, we'll talk once a week, have each other over for barbecues. I got him to switch over to Mobil Delvac, and we've been friends ever since. How does Mobil Delvac™ heavy-duty diesel engine oil help you succeed? Mobil Delvac keeps my engine from making weird sounds, ticks, knocks, or loud bangs. It helps keep my engine running clean, which means I make money. What's your CB handle? It depends on who's talking to me. If I'm at work they call me Redbeard—they're all jealous they can't grow a man's beard. If you ask my wife, it's Hillbilly Chrome. She helped come up with that one.
