Overdrive launched the contest last spring to highlight professional women drivers who demonstrate inner and outer beauty and who represent the industry well. "Beauty, to me, is not just outward," Stone says. "Somebody can be extremely ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside." Stone, who has been in trucking 21 years, owns Missfit Trucking and drives a 1999 Peterbilt 379. She hauls hogs for AgFeed Industries and Dan O'Brien Trucking. She also hauls cattle. Stone's father, uncles and grandfather drove trucks, but she's the first woman in her family to do so. After two years in the Army in the late '80s, Stone started driving professionally in 1992. She dedicates her time, money and truck to helping needy trucking families every Christmas, and she's volunteered with Trucker Charity Inc., a group that helps truckers in need year round. When Arrow Trucking Co. filed for bankruptcy in 2010, Stone and other volunteers worked hard to bring truckers home safely who were still on the road. – Max Heine 18 | Overdrive | September 2013 Logbook_0913.indd 18 8/28/13 10:20 AM
