SEVERE SERVICE EQUIPMENT/NEWS WORKSTAR RELAUNCHED WITH 13-LITER SCR ENGINE Navistar is bringing back the International WorkStar to its vocational lineup and now is using its 13-liter MaxxForce engine equipped with selective catalytic reduction emissions technology to power it. The WorkStar's reintroduction marks the fourth truck Navistar has switched to SCR since December. "With the launch of the WorkStar with our 13-liter SCR engine, we continue to make great progress in our engine transition strategy," says Bill Kozek, president of Navistar's North America Truck and Parts. Navistar's SCR-equipped trucks also include the linehaul International ProStar and 9900i models, as well as the vocational International PayStar 5900, all available with the Cummins ISX15. The heavy-duty WorkStar model includes two variations – 7600 SBA (46-inch setback axle) and 7600 SFA (30-inch set-forward axle). Both models feature a 113-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab length. International Trucks, internationaltrucks.com EQUIPMENT NEWS IN BRIEF Air-Weigh, a provider of onboard electronic scales, now offers a scale for trucks upfit with the Heil Starr refuse and recycling body. Air-Weigh scales are designed to provide accurate weight measurements for each axle as well as payload and gross vehicle weight. The Heil Starr scale is based on Air-Weigh's LoadMaxx scale technology that uses air pressure sensors to measure and calculate the tractor's steer and drive axle weights, along with deflection sensor technology on the trailer axle to measure the trailer's weight. Air-Weigh, air-weigh.com Parts on your phone By Amy Materson Parker Hose Products, a division of Parker Hannifin, has devised a way to speed up the replacement-part identification process, which is particularly useful for severe-duty operators with pneumatic systems on their trucks. Since 2009, Parker methodically has been barcoding hose assemblies as part of the Parker Tracking System and now has millions of recorded assets useful for identification and tracking. The company now is offering its customers, via its PTS app for iPhone and Android, access to a program that allows end users to replacementorder a part directly from a smartphone. The app is free in Apple's iTunes App Store and in the Google Play store for Android. "Hoses are wear items that will eventually fail," says Bill Sayavich, business development manager for Parker Hannifin. "This is a way to get up and running quickly." PTS captures customer contact information; a bill of material, including the hose, fittings, accessories, length, cleaning specifications, fitting orientation, lot number and custom instructions; application data, including the VIN, assembly date, system information, fluid and environmental data and installation location; replacement information and history; customized instructions for maintenance, repair and operations; and file attachment storage for prints, certifications, photos and other documents. The customer uses a phone's camera to scan the barcode, and PTS verifies the asset. Customers also may enter the ID number manually or send a photo of the part to a distributor. Once confirmed, the system locates a distributor based on the customer's ZIP code or by GPS, and then sends the assembly details to the distributor for quoting and processing.
