bridge preservation loves the elements
The Arthur J. Ravenel Jr. bridge in Charleston, South Carolina is a 2.5 mile single
cable-stay bridge and features a latex-modified deck overlay system with higher
flexural strength, adhesion, compressive strength, abrasion resistance, increased
resistance to penetration of oil, water, and salt as well as freeze-thaw damage
which can extend the life-span of the bridge decking up to 70 years.
This bridge was constructed with latex-modified concrete using
BASF's Styrofan® 1186.
