A1 EXCAVATING Continued from page 17 Sand opportunity By 2011 the sand mines near Bloomer suddenly were producing a hot commodity as their product was in need in North Dakota, where it's mixed in a slurry and pumped into the ground, pushing natural gas into more accessible spaces. Pecha was quick to take advantage of the opportunity and dedicated five new Model 367s fitted with PACCAR MX engines and aluminum dump bodies to the task. A new Model 567 is also on the job. It's not a high mileage application, as some of the sand mines are less than five miles away. But it's high wear-andtear mileage, as the sand mines present a challenging off-road environment. "The equipment can handle it," Pecha says. "The tightness of the cab, the durability — you really see the difference with these Peterbilts." NEW MODEL 567 IMPRESSES DRIVER Marty Erickson is running a dedicated sand haul in a new Peterbilt Model 567, powered by a PACCAR MX engine, for A1 Excavating. "I love the truck," says Erickson, who has been working out of the pre-production unit since January. "I really like the visibility out of it," he adds. "There's a lot of room, and it handles real well, especially in the conditions and terrain where we have to operate. I also really like the power."
