JessicA lAnius ARtistic diRectoR of tHeAtRe lilA, ActRess ANd fReelANce diRectoR After co-founding Theatre LILA in New York, Jessica Lanius embarked on a successful acting and directing career. Now, her Theater LILA is in Madison, where she produces entertaining, thought-provoking shows—"Goethe's Faust," "Wrecked," "WONDER:lust"—that showcase Theatre LILA's tagline: Collaboration. Invention. Performance. "I have always been interested in experimenting with visually exciting theater and fusing storytelling with physicality." That, plus her outstanding direction of Children's Theater of Madison's "Anne of Green Gables," make her an act to follow. –A.M. MonicA MArTin siNgeR-soNgWRiteR WitH tHe bANd, PHoX Monica Martin loves making people happy. On stage, it's like honey drips from the corners of her smile. Fans are abuzz about this 24-year-old singer-songwriter and the five musicians who have her back. Phox has leapt from local shows to Lollapalooza and is now in pre-production on its next album, which they'll record at Bon Iver's studio in Eau Claire. "It seems," she says, "I'm looking at someone else's life." Though a rising star, she's as grounded as her soulful voice. –K.W. nAhA greenholTZ coNceRtmAsteR of tHe mAdisoN sYmPHoNY oRcHestRA ANd tHe QUAd citY sYmPHoNY oRcHestRA, gUest coNceRtmAsteR of tHe NAtioNAl bAllet of cANAdA iN toRoNto Classical music is a rigorous profession, but this violinist thrives on the challenge. As a concertmaster, Naha Greenholtz draws on top-notch musicianship and leadership skills, overseeing the string section and performing all violin solos. She grew up in major cities, played with symphonies throughout North America, and now calls Madison home. "Madison just feels right: big enough to have a thriving cultural scene…but small enough to not be overwhelming." Only 28 years old, her overture has just begun. –A.M.
