That way, you keep the engine load as light as possible to maintain fuelefficient forward motion. 4 You can also coast up hills Plan ahead when approaching a grade. Use the truck's momentum to carry you forward and let I-Shift automatically match the gear to the road speed. Apply the accelerator gently if you lose momentum going uphill. Like a fighter pilot, you need to use your professional situational awareness when coasting. Coast your truck up to traffic lights.
