When Catherine Weaver turned 50, she realized she needed to take control of her health. "I was tired of being uncomfortable in my own skin," she says. "Joining Journeys was the answer I needed." Journeys is a 20-week comprehensive weight management program offered at Cox Monett Hospital. It focuses on mental, physical and emotional health. "All three components are of equal importance, and together they make the program a success," says Nancy Ridgley, coordinator. Catherine began filling out a food journal to keep track of what she was eating, completing weekly weigh-ins and exercising with her Journeys class. "As the weight started to come off and the success started building, it became even better," she says. Recently, she had her annual health screening and her cholesterol numbers improved – "I have never known it to be this low!" What she found to be most helpful about the program was accountability, encouragement and support. "Although I've reached my goal weight, my journey will never be over because I'll always need to be active and watch what I eat to keep it there," says Catherine, who has lost 80 pounds.
