Spring Brings Increase to MDI, Equipment Rates Internet Truckstop®'s Market Demand Index (MDI) witnessed a marked increase during the period from Feb. 10 through April 14. e MDI rose from a mark of 18.45 Feb. 10 to 23.62 April 14, or an increase of nearly 22 percent. Equipment rates rose across the board. Overall equipment rates rose from $2.12 on Feb. 10 to a level of $2.25 April 14, rising almost 6 percent. Flatbed rates rose to $2.26 April 14, aer coming in at $2.09 Feb. 10, an increase of 7.6 percent, while Reefer rates climbed 9 cents to a mark of $2.36 April 14 from $2.27 Feb. 10, an increase of almost 4 percent. Specialized rates came in at $2.81 April 14, up 2.2 percent from a mark of $2.75 on Feb. 10, while Van rates rose to $2.08 April 14, up from $2.00 Feb. 10, an increase of nearly 4 percent. Although trucking capacity remains tight, carriers have managed to work through much of the winter inventory build- up as weather has improved.
