Manager of Cumberland Farms’ Leicester, Mass., store, Linda Calver, won first place as 2010 NECSA Store Operator of the Year. Her colleague Dan Canova of the Deep River, Conn., store won the Customer Service Award. Julie Gerundio of the West Warwick, R.I., store won the Leadership Award and Roy Horsfield of the Halifax, Mass., store won the Retail Operations Award. NECSA conducts a contest annually to determine which store managers, franchisees and independent owners are the best convenience-store opera- tors in the Northeast. Every year, a panel of judges consist- ing of suppliers and retailers, spend 600 hours and drive roughly 5,300 miles, to evaluate the fifty to seventy-five nomi- nated operators and their stores. n Calcasieu Women’s Shelter wins year’s supply of Citgo gasoline Citgo Petroleum Corp. has named the Calcasieu Women’s Shelter of Lake Charles, La. the latest “Fueling Good” Grand Prize winner. In recognition of its work providing shelter, support, and counseling to victims of domestic and sexual violence across Southwest Louisiana, the non-profit organization has been awarded a year’s supply of Citgo fuel and a case of Citgo motor oil. n ExxonMobil Speedpass offers 15 cents off per gallon of gas ExxonMobil is offering 15 cents off per gallon of gas purchased with a reg- istered Speedpass account. The offer- ing is timed to precede the Memorial Day weekend, the company noted in a press release. Customers may register their Speedpass accounts at Speedpass.com/ save to earn discounts for a 60-day period when they use their Speedpass devices on fuel purchases at partici- pating Exxon and Mobil stations. Customers will receive their savings, on www.npnweb.com n NPN Magazine up to 100 gallons of gas, or $15, in the form of rebates on the credit or check card accounts linked to their devices. Customers must register their accounts online by June 30 in order to take advan- tage of the savings. Customers who do not have a Speedpass are invited to enroll and register online at speedpass.com. Registration and enrollment are free. The system is available for con- sumer accounts only, not business or fleet card accounts. Purchases in New Jersey and Louisiana are not eligible for the cents off per gallon promotion. In those states, ExxonMobil will offer a $20 ExxonMobil gift card for new Speedpass online enrollments between May 2 and June 30, 2011; accounts must be activated by July 31, 2011. CHANGING HANDS n Getty Realty acquires 66 Shell branded properties in Greater Boston, southern New Hampshire Getty Realty Corp. announced March 31 that it acquired 66 Shell branded gaso- line station and convenience store prop- erties located in and around the Greater Boston and Southern New Hampshire area for approximately $86.1 million, in a sale/leaseback transaction with Nouria Energy Ventures I, LLC, a subsidiary of Nouria Energy Group. n Atlas Oil acquires Ro-Di Oil Company, expanding its operations in Indiana Atlas Oil Company said April 4 that it completed its acquisition of Ro- Di Oil Company of Veedersburg, Indiana. Ro-Di Oil Company distrib- utes approximately 10 million gallons of petroleum products annually in the central Indiana marketplace, Atlas said in a statement posted on its website. n Matrix announces the successful sale of 20 High’s Dairy Stores Matrix Capital Markets Group, Inc. (Baltimore, Md) announces the successful sale of twenty retail assets of Hanover, MD based High’s of Baltimore, Inc., t/a High’s Dairy Stores. The retail assets have been sold to multiple buyers, including national consolidators, regional jobbers, and individual store operators. High’s directly operated all of the units. Fee simple real estate interests in three units and leasehold interests in seventeen units were conveyed to the buyers. Matrix provided merger and acqui- sition advisory services to High’s, which included valuation advisory, asset marketing through a customized structured sale process, and negotia- tion of the transactions. n Report: Speedway to buy 27 Gas City stations, paying more than $70 million Speedway will buy the bulk of Gas City stores in metro Chicago, according to documents in Gas City’s bankruptcy case, reported The Southtown Star. Speedway, a subsidiary of Ohio-based Marathon, will pay more than $70 million for 27 stations, reported Mike Nolan in The Star. Alimentation Couche-Tard, also will pick up a handful of Gas City stores, according to the report. n 7-Eleven plans to add 46 stores in Hawaii Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is planning to nearly double its number of stores in Hawaii to 100 during the next five years, reported Janis L. Magin of Pacific Business News. If realized, the plan would give 7-Eleven control of nearly a third of the convenience store chain market in the Islands, according to the report. n 7-Eleven acquires Wilson Farms 7-Eleven Inc. has agreed to buy the Wilson Farms convenience store chain, an ownership change that eventually will result in the rebranding and franchising of the stores, company officials told The Buffalo News. Terms of the deal, which was announced April 27 and is expected to close by June, were not disclosed. The homegrown Wilson Farms chain con- sists of 188 stores in New York State. MAY/JUNE 2011 11
