30 BRAVA MAGAZINE | JUNE 2014 PHOTOGRAPHED BY KAIA CALHOUN THRIVE PORTRAIT OF AN ART SHOW A DISCOURSE ON LOVE A SHOW WITH A WHOLE LOTTA HEART Absolutely Art and Café Zoma feel the LOVEFORTHEVIBRˬNT&ˬST4IDECOMMUNITY in which they're nestled—and that's what makes them the ideal hosts for this month's group show, "A Discourse on Love," which runs June 6-28. Conceptualized and passionately facili- tated by artist Mallory Shotwell, the ex- hibition is the culmination of her "Study of Love," a nine-month-long project in which she engaged more than 100 people, from toddlers to elders, in deep conversa- tions about the meaning of love. Shotwell's motivation is big on heart. "I have always been curious about love. I believe we are all connected by this one thing. I wanted to see what would hap- pen, as a community, when we become open and vulnerable to that," says this local photographer, painter, Montessori school teacher and mom. "A Discourse on Love" is a collective work featuring more than 45 Madison- area artists responding to questions from "Feel the Love" June 6, 5-9 p.m. at Absolutely Art. Meet the artists and enjoy interactive experiences—a tarot reader, a robot that writes love letters, performance artists and live music. Meghan Blake-Horst and Mallory Shotwell
