Connections | Summer 2014 20 May 2014 Lunch & Learn The MSAE Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, May 21, was an important one due to the topic – preparing for and responding to weather-related events. When Mother Nature makes up her mind, nothing can be done to prevent weather-related disasters such as the destruction from tornadoes on April 28. However, much can be done to alert an area of potential disastrous weather, and much can be done in response when disastrous weather has occurred. Four different organizations were on-hand to deliver this important information; Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Mississippi Hospital Association Health, Foundation's Hospital Preparedness Program, American Red Cross and Tupelo Convention and Visitor Bureau. All organizations agreed that utilizing a cell phone app or text, social media, or emergency radio is an important tool in receiving emergency-related alerts. Moderator, Shari Veazey; Guest panelists: Pictured (l to r) Joyce Pearson, Miss. Hospital Association; Greg Flynn, MEMA; Stephanie Coomer, Tupelo CVB; Samantha Kalahar, American Red Cross; and Jared Turner, American Red Cross.
