The team’s emphasis falls espe- cially on deploying “mature” capa- bilities that have been identified in the “Modernization Roadmap for the Geospatial Platform.” The team is look- ing for applications and technologies providing useful services that can be built on and undertaken quickly. Team members seek to combine the best aspects from many existing federal geographic data capabilities. Specifically, it’s assessing various federal geospatial capabilities to determine how well they would meet the needs of the Geospatial Platform. To date, TDTT evaluated exist- ing federal capabilities such as the Geospatial Visualization Enterprise Service at the National Geospatial- Intelligence Agency, NASA’s Open Source Spatial Web Portal, NOAA’s Environmental Response Management Application and the existing geodata.gov portal for the Geospatial One-Stop initiative. The team also evaluated Esri’s Geoportal Server, a free open-source product, as well as other capabilities. Following evaluations, the team will develop a “technical deployment” recom- mendation for the core leadership team of the Geospatial Platform and the FGDC Executive Committee, including concepts for technical architecture. The team also is developing a list of recommended can- didate services and applications. TDTT expects to roll out live data, services and applications on GeoPlatform.gov before the end of 2011.
