By Dr. Peter J. Holbrook If you're thinking of going back for a degree, you are not alone. College isn't just for the recent high school graduates. In fact, over 40 percent of students pursuing higher education are age 25 and older. With life-changing events (getting a job, losing a job, starting a family), there comes a realization that degrees help provide a competitive edge in the market place and the fact that people with degrees typically earn more than people without them are all strong motivators to pursue a degree. According to College Board's "Education Pays 2013," compared to people with a high school degree on average, associate degree holders earn 27 percent more; bachelor's degree holders earn 65 percent more; and master's degree holders earn 96 percent more. Another growing trend is to expand an L_PZ[PUNKLNYLL^P[OJLY[PÄJH[LWYVNYHTZ[OH[ give you a "degree refresh" with a special skill set (like project management or sales management). These days, adults going back to school typically work full-time jobs, have children, and have many other demands on their time.
