JULY 2014 11 THE JOURNAL loans as well as American consumers who rely on manufactured housing as the most affordable source of safe, decent and affordable home- ownership. It also sends a clear signal from Congress to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that the days of discriminating against decent, hard- working, credit-worthy middle class Americans who purchase or wish to purchase a federally- regulated manufactured home must come to an end. On a related note, the Banking Committee markup of S. 1217 did result in the inclusion of new language in the bill to require the Con- sumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) to "consider and review" its loan originator com- pensation, loan originator definition and high- cost mortgage regulations adopted pursuant to the Dodd-Frank law as they relate to manufac- tured housing, after reviewing relevant data and consulting with stakeholders. In Washington, D.C., MHARR Chairman John Bostick stated: "We are extremely grati- fied by the Banking Committee's vote on May 15, 2014 to move forward with bi-partisan GSE reform legislation that includes clear, definitive and mandatory language to protect the rights of current and future manufactured homeowners in the housing finance market of tomorrow. We thank the Chairman and Ranking Member for their leadership on this issue, but most par- ticularly, Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kay Hagan (D-NC) for championing these crucial protections as part of the Senate bill." MHARR is also grateful to the nation's 20 million manufactured homeowners and the Na- tional Manufactured Home Owners Association (NMHOA) for its support of this effort, as a consequence of an October 2013 meeting be- tween leaders of the two groups. MHARR will continue with its efforts in Congress on this matter, hopefully culminating in passage of a final bill incorporating these key provisions. The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform is a Washington, D.C.- based national trade association representing the views and interests of independent producers of federally-regulated manufactured housing. v i s i t our website Visit our website.
