As the software suite continues to improve and expand, these tools provide greater accuracy and applications to city foresters to better manage and sustain their programs. and property and represent significant environmental and economic service losses. With full support of the U.S. Forest Service, Detroit is using IPED during its citywide inventory project to learn from the recent EAB experience and better prepare to manage the public forest, prevent future invasive threats and protect the forest’s benefits. Palo Alto, CA, knew Davey Resource Group would complete an accurate Streets project Palo Alto, CA and i-Tree Streets - Considered by many to be a pioneer in urban forest management and tree preservation, the City of Palo Alto turned to i-Tree Streets to define and quantify their publicly-owned street tree resource. Armed with a comprehensive analysis of the current structure, benefits, and value of this resource, the community is developing a master plan that will define their long-term goals and ensure a sustainable future. Pittsburgh, PA and i-Tree Eco - Tree Pittsburgh is an environmental non-profit dedicated to protecting and maintaining the City’s urban forest. An i-Tree Eco project, with more than 200 plots citywide, will give them accurate information on the substantial environmental, social and economic benefits trees provide. The Eco project’s results combined with information from their previous Streets project will strengthen their leadership in creating an attractive, healthy and safe urban forest. Fort Wayne, IN and i-Tree Storm - Fort Wayne’s Park and Recreation Department used i-Tree Storm to support their citywide urban forest emergency response and recovery plan. After a devastating and expensive ice storm in 2009, the City decided to be proactive with its data and records, ensuring FEMA reimbursement monies would never be lost again. Thanks to i-Tree Storm, the City is better prepared to implement a more efficient emergency response program. Detroit, MI and i-Tree IPED - Detroit is battling the effects of a severe emerald ash borer (EAB) infestation. Public trees damaged by EAB pose severe safety risks to people www.urban-forestry.com Kansas City, MO and i-Tree Hydro - The Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) used i-Tree Hydro to model land cover effects in the watershed. Since development pressures are fragmenting urban forests and threatening the environmental quality of the Blue River watershed, MARC embarked on a research, policy and planning, and education initiative to conserve and restore its green infrastructure. Regional stakeholders can use Hydro’s results to understand forests’ and impervious covers’ effects on stream flow and their potential impacts on tree loss and canopy increase. Davey Resource Group has integrated IPED into the street tree inventory in Detroit, MI. Are you using i-Tree to its fullest extent? Have you tried the newest applications? Are you confident in the data you are getting? Have you effectively shared i-Tree project results with other departments, elected officials and the citizens in your community? As a full partner with SMA and the U.S. Forest Service’s i-Tree developers and researchers, Davey Resource Group (DRG) has a unique, intimate knowledge of the software. As we’ve done for these five cities and more, DRG will use its urban forest management expertise and experience to help you to use i-Tree tools to their fullest extent for the benefit of your program, trees and your community.
