CUSTOM RIGS 58 | Overdrive | October 2014 I owa-based Ron and Dan Brubaker represent two genera- tions of the family with unique, respective Peterbilts. Ron's is a 379, while his son Dan's is a 2014 389 glider powered by the Detroit 60 series engines that Tennessee-based Fitzgerald Glider Kits typically puts in their units. Both rigs are in no way short on cus- tom touches. Ron's "One of a Kind" most definitely earns its name, from the flying-swine hood ornament – fit- ting, given the creatures he typically hauls – to newly redone tile flooring and other interior elements. Perhaps the most special alteration, and one that required a hefty dose of sweat equity, was the change to the hood of what was a 1993 short- hood 379 that Ron bought new in October 1992. He gave it the long-hood squared-off look after cutting about eight inches from long-hood panels and doing fur- ther engineering work to make the new hood fit. Both rigs took home Best of Show victories in July in Tennessee and competed for Overdrive's Pride & Polish National Championship – Ron's 379 in Working Bobtail and Dan's 389 in Working Combo – at the Great American Trucking Show in August. Visit OverdriveOnline.com and search "Brubaker" to find more information on the trucks, along with several photo galleries and videos. Two of a kind Father-son duo Ron and Dan Brubaker made big splashes on the Pride & Polish circuit with their unique, fully custom Petes. Iowa-based Dan and Ron Brubaker represent two generations of the family. Dan Brubaker's Peterbilt, left, is a 2014 389 glider, while Ron's "One of a Kind" is a 1993 379 modified for a long-hood look with a flying-swine hood ornament.
