FLEET NEWS 68 | Overdrive | December 2014 BY DEAN SMALLWOOD PAY K&B TRANSPORTATION boosted its sign-on bonus for newly hired drivers, who now will receive $400 in orientation pay and $500 on their Dec. 19 paycheck before Christmas. New hires also received $500 on their Nov. 21 paycheck prior to Thanksgiving. Drivers for the Sioux City, Iowa-based refrigerated carrier also have the option to run over the Christmas holiday and earn an extra $250 bonus. BAY & BAY TRANSPORTATION of St. Paul, Minn., increased its retention bonus for quali- fying mileage contractors and company drivers by 1 cent for every dispatched mile driven, both loaded and empty, until Sept. 30. This is in addition to the pre-exist- ing 1-cent retention bonus already in effect through March 31. TW TRANSPORT of Spokane, Wash., increased pay for solo drivers to 40 cents per mile and team drivers to 50 cents per mile. FACILITIES OLD DOMINION FREIGHT LINE added drayage facilities in Dallas and Nashville to its nationwide network. The Thomasville, N.C.-based less-than-truckload company said both new facilities are positioned strategically near several major railheads. CON-WAY TRUCKLOAD enhanced its tuition reimbursement program for professional driving school from $2,000 to $4,000, effective immediately. The Joplin, Mo.-based company said the program also will provide students currently attend- ing or enrolling in a professional driving school with a full-time posi- tion upon graduation. Con-way Truckload will make the monthly payments on a student's tuition loan for the first 12 months of employ- ment and will pay the remainder of the loan in a lump sum.
