Better Roads December 2014 13 Komatsu launches more fuel-effi cient WA200-7 wheel loader Komatsu America's WA200-7 wheel loader provides a 3-percent reduction in fuel usage compared to the previous model, the WA200-6. The 126-horsepow- er loader, which weighs between 25,342 and 26,070 pounds, replaces both the WA200-6 and WA200PZ-6. The loader has a Tier 4 Interim SAA4D107E-2 Komatsu engine that lowers emissions while better managing air-fl ow rate, fuel injection, combustion and exhaust after-treatment. An electronically actuated variable fl ow turbocharger and exhaust gas recirculation valve simplifi es air management and lengthens component life. A diesel oxidation catalyst is good for the life of the engine, and is a 100 percent passive regeneration system. betterroads.com/?p=38099 Volvo G Series articulated haulers with auto traction control The A25G, A30G, A35G, A35G FS A40G and A40GS G Series models all have automatic traction control (ATC) and unique differential locks as standard features. The machines also all come fi tted with CareTrack telematics system. The ATC system automatically switches between 6-by-6 and 6-by-4 drive combinations for maximum traction and to lower fuel consumption. The oil-cooled, wet multiple disc brakes on the A35 and A40 models are being integrated into the A25G and A30G machines. The A35G FS and the A40G FS have full hydraulic suspension on all wheels, and all the models can be equipped with Volvo's weighing system. betterroads.com/volvo-tier-4-fi nal MMFX Steel ChromX 4100 maintains ductility MMFX Steel Corporation's uncoated, high-strength steel and corrosion re- sistant product, MMFX2, has been used successfully throughout the trans- portation industry. However, not all projects need corrosion resistance so the company saw a need to develop a high-strength steel without corrosion inhibitors. The result was the development of ChromX 4100, which doesn't have corrosion inhibitors and serves as a more economical choice for proj- ects where only high-strength steel, not corrosion resistance, is needed. Less steel is used, making it less expensive. ChromX 4100 has the same mechani- cal properties of high-strength ASTM A1035 reinforcing steel. Manufactur- ing this high-strength steel results in a low-carbon martensitic steel microstructure with high ductility. ChromX 4100 is able to maintain ductility and can be fabricated like conventional reinforcing steel. Grade 100 ChromX 4100 high-strength rebar allows structures to be designed and built with up to 40 percent less steel. The 825K now incorporates Caterpillar's Machine Drive Power (MDP) system, which measures the soil's load-bearing strength to assess the degree of compaction, sensing the rolling resistance of the material. betterroads.com/?p=38111 Caterpillar AP1000F 'heats the screed' in 15 minutes Powered by a Tier 4 Final Cat C7.1 ACERT engine, Cat's AP1000F paver uses selective catalytic reduc- tion, a diesel particulate fi lter and diesel emis- sion fl uid. The wheeled AP1000F has an optional 6-wheel drive, which provides 200 percent more front pull force over the E-Series pavers, Cat says. www.betterroads.com/?p=38100
