NewRoadProducts Better Roads December 2014 35 by Tina Grady Barbaccia Kohler generators with optional liquid propane tanks Kohler Power Systems' compact gaseous-fueled generators – the 50REZGT and 70REZGT – can easily switch between optional on-board liquid propane (LP) fuel tanks and external LP liquid, LP gas or natural gas fuel sources. The two models are eligible for incentives of $1,000 to $3,500 from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) and are said to help reduce users' fuel costs by 15 to 20 percent compared to diesel fuel. The 50REZGT features a 4.3-liter naturally aspirated engine while the 70REZGT features a 5.7-liter engine. The two models feature optional on-board LP tanks, so users working in areas without a propane gas supply can use on-board fuel and then switch to an onsite supply when available. The on-board tank is built for a 24-hour run time. The generators are part of the new line of mobile generators Kohler introduced this spring, with additional models planned for release throughout the next year. betterroads.com/?p=38130 Fecon's RTF230 Rubber Tire Mulching Tractor Fecon's RTF230 Rubber Tire Mulching Tractor is a four-wheel drive, four-wheel steer machine that boosts tractive and handling capabilities. A center-mounted engine and hydraulic drive train give the RT230 a very low center of gravity and even balance. The machine has a 230-horsepower engine and 75 gpm/6,000 psi high fl ow. The RTF230 can achieve a road speed of up to 24 mph. The RTF230 is capable of boom and/or crane mounting, me- chanical or hydraulic PTOs (and three-point hitches) both front and back. betterroads.com/?p=38172 ASTM standard provides accepted procedure for measurement The release of the ASTM F3080 provides engineers, inspectors and au- thorities with an internationally accepted procedure for the measurement and/or confi rming of installed pipe size and/or shape deformation. The F3080 – 14 Standard incorporates a 360-degree, non-rotating laser light ring projected onto the interior surface of a pipe or drain- age structure. The narrow laser ring of light conforms to the true and existing internal shape, regardless of that shape. Each laser image is captured and recorded using a CCTV color pipeline inspection system with video recorder as the CCTV camera with laser projector, moves through the line. The recorded inspection image data is moved to a computer where machine vision programs and algorithms are used to process each video image (30 frames per second NTSC, 25 frames per second PAL). The processing software generates the center of each video image, performs and stores 1,080 radial measurements per image. Using this radial data, multiple reports can be generated, viewed and printed. betterroads.com/?p=38170 Ditch Witch's most powerful mini skid steer Ditch Witch's SK859 mini skid steer is equipped with a 37-horsepower, Tier 4 Yanmar diesel engine and is the company's most powerful mini skid steer. It has an 860-pound rated operating capacity and 83-inch hinge-pin height. The mini skid steer's 74-square-inch platform and the ergonomic operator's station have been updated. Dual-lever ground drive controls come standard, with an optional single-lever joystick available. An auxiliary control foot pedal helps operators maintain hydraulic fl ow to the attach- ment while freeing their hands to control depth and ground speed. The high-drive track system has bolt-on sprockets that can be interchanged, an exclusive Ditch Witch feature. The track system, comes with the choice of 42- or 36-inch-wide tracks. betterroads.com/?p=38174
