do not inhibit the growth of established weeds. For best results, apply once in the early spring and once in the late summer/early fall. The products are more effective when used in conjunction with a sound turf maintenance program. The inhibitory effect of the products on weed seeds is reported to dissipate in five weeks. Kocide® 2000 contains the active ingredient copper hydroxide (53.8%), which is a Group M fungicide. The product was recently registered for use on golf course and lawn bowling greens to control Silvery Thread Moss (Bryum argenteum). A minimum of four applications per year are required to achieve good moss control. Arena™ 50 WDG Insecticide contains the active ingredient clothianidin, which is a neonicotinoid in RMG 4A. It is a broad spectrum, residual insecticide. The length of residual control depends on environmental factors, plant growth, and the dosage rate. Arena™ 50 WDG Insecticide is registered to control a wide spectrum of insects, including Annual Bluegrass Weevil, Asiatic Garden Beetle, Bluegrass Billbug, European Chafer, European Crane Fly (Leather Jacket), Hairy Chinch Bug, Japanese Beetle, Masked Chafers, and Oriental Beetle. It can be applied to turfgrass on golf courses, sod farms, and landscaped sites (residential, municipal, industrial and recreational). Nemasys® G contains a species of nematodes (Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) that has been selected for its ability to successfully attack and kill soil-borne grubs of European Chafers, Oriental Beetles, and Japanese Beetles. The nematodes enter grubs through natural body openings and then release a symbiotic bacterium that quickly kills them. The nematodes reproduce in the grub, creating a new generation of infective juveniles that disperse in search of host grubs. Precautions need to be taken at mixing and application to reduce the risk of harming the beneficial nematodes. Refer to the label for specific information on these precautions. Nemasys® G is more effective on young grubs (1st and 2nd instar). Veridian™ 0.33G and 25 WG contain the active ingredient thiamethoxam, which is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide (RMG 4). Veridian™ is a broad spectrum insecticide that provides control by contact or ingestion of specific soil-borne chewing pests. It does provide some residual control because it is both moderately persistent in the soil and readily absorbed into plant tissues. It is registered to control European Chafer, Japanese Beetle, Black Turfgrass Ataenius, and Masked Chafer on turfgrasses on golf courses, residential lawns, commercial grounds, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and sod farms. For optimum control, apply Veridian™ from peak flight to peak egg hatch. Primo MAXX® (trinexapac-ethyl) is a plant growth regulator that blocks the production of gibberellic acid in leaves, which results in a reduction in cell elongation and vertical growth of the turfgrass. Growth regulation begins about 3-5 days after product application and 50% suppression of turf growth should be achieved for at least 4 weeks under good growing conditions. In addition to reducing the frequency of mowing and the volume of grass clippings produced, the application of Primo MAXX® is reported to improve drought resistance and wear tolerance of turfgrass. It is registered for use on golf courses and sod farms. It is not registered for use around homes or other residential areas such as parks, school grounds, and playing fields. Treated areas should continue to receive regular maintenance practices as recommended for quality turf. Royal MH® 60 SG (maleic hydrazide) is a plant growth regulator that stops cell division but not cell elongation. The effect is temporary and the length of growth control is a function of the application rate. Application will also inhibit seed head formation. Royal MH® is registered for use on all turf areas, except fine lawns and areas under heavy foot traffic (e.g. golf course greens and fairways). It can be used on rough areas of golf courses to reduce mowing and maintenance costs. The label states the product should be applied once per year.
