New Products & Packaging x Southern Comfort has launched Southern Comfort Fiery Pepper, a fusion of Southern Comfort and Tabasco brand pepper sauce. The new spicy beverage boasts a balanced mixture of genuine whiskey infused with the peppery flavor of Tabasco. It can be served as a cold shot or incorporated into a cocktail, the company suggests. A major marketing campaign is accompanying the launch, including TV, national trade and online media. Southern Comfort Fiery Pepper is 70 proof with a sug- gested retail price of $16.99 for a 750 ml bottle. x Part of the Clos de Los Siete group of five large bodegas in Argentina established by the Bonnie fami- ly of Bordeaux renown, Bodega DiamAndes has released three new wines to the U.S. market: DiamAndes Viognier, Chardonnay and Malbec. Blending mod- ern traditional winemaking techniques, are all single vineyard varietals, handpicked and made from 100% of the grape on the label. The Viogier is fresh and aromatic with good bal- ance and acidity; the Chardonnay is full-bodied with rich tropical fruit flavors and citrus notes; the Malbec features dark fruit and a silky texture. All three varietals have a suggested retail of $20 for a 750 ml bottle. x Malibu Rum has debuted Malibu Winter Limited Edition, a blend of Caribbean rum with real coconut flakes suspended in the liq- uid which, when consumed, dissolve slowly in the mouth, the company says. The seasonal release will be available through December of this year. Similar to original Malibu, Malibu Winter offers a smooth balance of rum and coconut flavor, with the difference being in the actual flakes of coconut. The package design incorporates a clear, see-through win- dow on the brand's white bottle to showcase the coconut flakes (looking like holiday "snow") floating in the liquid. The Malibu Winter Edition has a suggested retail price of $13.99 for a 750 ml bottle. x Washington State's Mercer Estates has released a new portfo- lio of wines called "Wine Out West," meant to accent the pioneering history of the Mercer Estates' families who settled in Columbia Valley's Horse Heaven Hills in 1886. The initial releases include Dead Canyon Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 (suggested retail $16.99) and Gone Fishin' Columbia Valley Riesling 2010 (suggested retail $11.99). Fermented in cool, stainless steel tanks, the Riesling is crisp and fresh, showing peach, tangerine and stone fruit with a slight honeyed finish; the Cabernet Sauvignon features ripe red berry fruit flavors with some earth and spice, accented by smooth tannins and balanced acidity.
