The goose is dead
I
live in Indiana. In 2013 I had my fi rst
taste of a Honeycrisp. It was awesome!
I told my friends and family. We all were
hooked! I didn't bat an eye at paying more
for the substantially better apple.
In 2015, I noticed the Honeycrisps were
not only not as good as I remember, but
they were bland and worse than Braeburn,
Fuji, etc. I was so disappointed. I was
literally ready to give up on the Honeycrisp.
I read this article ("Honeycrisp: Don't
kill the golden goose," Good Fruit Grower,
February 1, 2014) a few months ago
and started looking at the origin of the
Honeycrisp apples that were available
in my local grocery stores. They are from
Michigan and Washington. I am unable to
fi nd Minnesota Honeycrisps.
Based on my experience, the Golden
Goose is already dead, unless you can get
Minnesota Honeycrisps back into Indiana
stores and clearly marked as Minnesota
Honeycrisp.
I'm seriously considering driving to
Minnesota next year to get some of the
only true Honeycrisp apples.
