Steve Diedrich explains the nuances of coffee roasting on SCAA show floor. SCAA Champions SEATTLE, Wash. - The Special t y Coffee Associat ion of Amer ica bestowes a number of honors and hosts several competitions at its annual convention. Congo Coffee Revival, a project of Twin, a U.K. based ethical trading organization, was the 2014 Sustainability Award Winner. The group helped remote growers access mainstream markets. Laila Ghambari, of Cherry Street Coffee House is the U.S. Barista Cham- pion. During the four-day contest 30 coffee professionals prepared 12 orders for judges, including four original signature drinks. Ghambari will represent the U.S. in June at the World Barista Championship in Rimini, Italy. Simeon Bricker of the Roasterie in Kansas City, Mo. was named Latte Art Champion. The Roaster's choice award went to Andrew Bowman, Tony's Coffee, Bellingham, Wash., Todd Goldsworthy at Klatch Coffee in Los Angeles is the Brewers Cup Champion. Amanda L. Juris of Starbucks, Seattle is the 2014 Cup Tasters Champion. SCAA returns to Seattle, Apr. 9-12, 2015 and will host the World Barista Championship. The show floor featured international brands from Italy, Spain, USA, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Zhang Yinzhe from the Da Lian division won the China Barista Championship and will represent China at the World Barista Championship. Mr. Huangyan bested 76 competitors to win the World Latte Art Championship. This was the first year for the China Cup Tasters Championship in which 64 competed. Wu Linbo from Wu Han won a spot in the finals in Melbourne. The next edition, hosted by the China Tourism Hotel Association and Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibitor Co. begins Mar. 30, 2015.
