ROBBY SHELTON GOES FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH Texas' Beau Hossler, Bay- lor's Kyle Jones and CSU Monterey Bay's Carr Ver- non. Georgia Tech's Bruce Heppler will serve as Team USA's coach in 2015. Shel- ton and Schniederjans are the only players on this year's team who competed in last year's Palmer Cup. Shelton has been a force throughout the season for the nationally- ranked Crimson Tide men's golf team. Shelton is ranked No. 7 in the nation according to the Golf- week/Sagarin performance index. He leads the Crimson Tide in scoring average (70.44), which in- cludes eight top-10 nishes (in nine tournaments) and is a combined 27-under par on the season. Furthermore, Shelton has had seven top-six nishes, including winning the Southern High- lands Masters in mid-March, and nishing third in last week's SEC's. Alabama has now had at least one player represented on the team in each of the past four years. For more information on the Palmer Cup, visit palmercup.org. And I'd have to think he will come under seri- ous consideration for the Walker Cup, which will be played Sept. 12-13 at famed Lytham & St. Annes in England. Also named a Semifi nalist for Ben Hogan Award Shelton has also been named one of 10 semi - nalists for the 2015 Ben Hogan Award presented by the Colonial Country Club, Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Coaches Association of America (GCAA). It marks the second consecutive season that Shelton has earned a spot among the award's semi nalists. Shelton is the only sophomore in the nation to be named as a semi nalist for the prestigious award. The Ben Hogan Award is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA collegiate golfer. Considerations for the award take into account all collegiate and ama- teur competitions during a 12-month period. Alabama has had at least one semi nalist in eight consecutive years (Michael Thompson-2008; Bud Cauley-2009, 2010, 2011; Justin Thomas-2012, 2013; Bobby Wyatt-2013, 2014; and Robby Shel- ton-2014, 2015), which is the longest active streak in the country. Other semi nalists for this year's award include New Mexico's Gavin Green, Texas' Beau Hossler, Baylor's Kyle Jones, Georgia's Lee McCoy, Stan- ford's Maverick McNealy, Washington's Cheng- Tsung Pan, Arizona State's John Rahm, Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans and Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart. On May 6, the list of 10 semi nalists will be pared down to three nalists. The three nalists will attend a black-tie banquet at Colonial Coun- try Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 18, where the winner will be crowned. Please take note of the Thompson TEES Off icon.
