Five years ago, I sat at my desk and
wrote my first article for our inaugural
Maverick Messenger. The article had
a title of "The Next Chapter," setting
the stage for me to summarize how
deregulation (see inset on next page re:
Did You Know, ICC"), technology, and
then re-regulation shaped our industry
and Maverick. We were celebrating
Maverick's thirty year anniversary, had
just survived The Great Recession, and
were ready to turn the page. We could
see the transformation taking place
in our industry and we wanted our
customers to know we were up for new
challenges.
In the last five years, we have tried
to keep you abreast of industry changes
and challenges we face at Maverick.
There have been a lot of articles about
drivers and regulatory changes, and
how both of those affect carriers and
shippers alike. We have also shared
some personal information so that you
could understand the culture at Maverick
and the people you do business with.
Speaking of change, is Climate
Change for real? Is this the New
Norm? This is the second year in
a row where we have had some
significant winter weather issues in the
South that have affected your business
as well as ours. The negative impact
is somewhat hard to measure for some,
but we know that every load we lose,
every hour of driving our drivers lose,
and every dollar of revenue we lose,
is just that…lost. Obviously, it's an
economic impact to all shareholders
and our country as a whole, but more
importantly, our biggest concern is the
safety of our drivers and the motoring
public. Bad things happen in bad
weather!
