Transporting mobile equipment Heavy equipment or machinery which operates on wheels or tracks, such as front end loaders that are individually more than 10,000 pounds, have additional securement requirements. First, it must be restrained by a minimum of four tiedowns from side to side, front to back, and in vertical directions. These should be attached as close to the front and rear of the vehicle as possible, or to the mounting points on the vehicle designed for this purpose. "I've seen a lot of guys run one chain from side to side and think that counts as two. It doesn't," Wright says. "It has to be four separate chains." Another tiedown also must be used on any hydraulically actuated parts, including forklifts or backhoe buckets. These should be lowered and secured with the additional tiedown. When securing any item, Wright offers this additional piece of advice: Anything that "jiggles" isn't secured correctly. "If an officer can put his hand up there, and it jiggles, that's a securement violation," he says. At Andrews & Foster, employees perform the required DOT pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and cargo before mobilization occurs to make sure the load is properly secured with the correct amount of tiedowns. The ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of everyone on the road. "We want to make sure that all of our trucks have secure cargo with everything tied down correctly," Kinder says. "We pride ourselves on making the right things easy and the wrong things difficult. Rigorous attention to proper tiedown methods is in our DNA." Standard check valves will "chatter" and be noisy when a VFD goes to low flow, causing eventual fail- ure. The unique Model 80DIVFD unit is designed to minimize flow losses and hydraulic shocks in the pumping sys- tem. It features a standard epoxy coat- ing (NSF ® approved powder) ductile iron body to support deep set pumps. This new, exclusive poppet system in- sures that the valve smoothly automatically adjusts to flow and is noiseless at even very low flows.
